Reading

If you’re interested in learning about Cistercian spirituality, contemplation, silence, meditation, and/or the monastic life, here are a few books to get you started:

The Rule of Saint Benedict in English, Timothy Fry, editor. Liturgical Press, 2016.

This is our foundational text.

Not all of it applies to our lives today – for example, we’re not monks or nuns, and we don’t need to be told how to dress before we undertake a journey on foot – but many of its essential biblical principles can be adapted to our lives.
